Megan Moroney celebrated another major career milestone on Tuesday.
The country star was named one of the eight honorees at Variety’s ninth annual Hitmakers celebration, taking home the Storyteller of the Year award. The recognition celebrates her breakout year, thanks to the success of her most recent album, Am I Okay?. Others who have won this award include Olivia Rodrigo in 2023 and Lainey Wilson last year.
All musical artists chosen have been recognized for their breakthrough success this past year. Other honorees include BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ for Global Hitmaker of the Year, BigXThaPlug for Hip-Hop Disruptor of the Year, ROLE MODEL for Triple Threat of the Year, Fuerza Regida for Humanitarians of the Year, entertainment company Big Loud for Platinum Decade Award, Elliot Grainge for Executive of the Year, and Addison Rae, Elvira Anderfjärd and Luka Kloser for The Future Is Female Award.
The recently announced honorees will be joining this year’s Hitmaker of the Year, Sabrina Carpenter, along with previously announced honorees Tate McRae, Buddy Guy, Alex Warren, The Marías, HUNTR/X and Jack Antonoff. In addition, presenters at the event include singer and 2024 Hitmakers honoree Laufey, Sinners actor Miles Caton, comedian and podcast host Jake Shane, Jimmy Jam, Benny Blanco and more.
Moroney, 28, has quickly become one of country music’s brightest rising stars. She first caught national attention with her 2022 breakout “Tennessee Orange,” which brought her into the national spotlight and earned her widespread streaming success. She released her debut album, Lucky, in 2023, which includes the hits “I’m Not Pretty,” “Fix You Too (feat. Kameron Marlowe)” and “Sleep on My Side.” A year later, she followed it up with her CMA-nominated sophomore album, Am I Okay?, and is now prepping to release her third studio album, Cloud 9, on Feb. 20.
The Hitmakers Awards will take place on Sunday at an invite-only brunch in Los Angeles. Clips and full presentations from this year’s award ceremony will be uploaded to Variety‘s YouTube channel and official site.
